A little kitchen know-how

Freezer tips & tricks

1. Cool in smaller portions

Divide cooked food into shallow portions and refrigerate within two hours. Cool rice within one hour. Freeze promptly once cooled.

2. Seal, label and date

Use freezer-safe containers. Write the dish, the date and the portions on the label before it goes in.

3. Keep it cold

Keep your freezer at −18 °C or colder and leave space for liquids to expand. Freezing keeps food fresh, but it won’t make unsafe food safe.

4. Thaw with a plan

Defrost in the fridge and use within 24 hours of fully thawing. Cook from frozen only where the label says so.

5. Reheat evenly

Reheat cooked meals once, until steaming hot throughout. Stir sauces well and use microwave-safe containers.

6. Follow the label

Freeze the part the label names. Cook pasta, rice or toppings fresh where it says to.

Happy cooking, and happy freezing!
